Allen Daugherty - The Dominion Post
Dec 12, 2018Allen was born on January 4, 1954, in New Martinsville, to the late Lee and Goldie Daugherty. He was a 1971 graduate of Valley High School, in Pine Grove. He attended West Liberty College and West Virginia University. While at WVU, Allen volunteered as a paramedic with Mon County EMS. He met his future wife, Brenda, on an ambulance transport for an ill infant, where Brenda was the neonatal nurse practitioner.Allen began his lifelong career at WV Network in 1975, as an operator and remained there as Acting Director until his passing. He loved his work at WVNET and greatly appreciated his coworkers’ kindness and support over the last years. He was a member of Wesley United Methodist Church.In his younger years, he enjoyed rock climbing and rappelling. He loved tinkering and finding ways to reassemble gadgets that he had taken apart. As a child, he took apart his parents’ radio to see if he could put it back in working order. He was an avid reader and lover of all things sci-fi.He was a man of integrity, who cherished his family more than anything. He was very involved in his three sons’ activities. He coached numerous soccer teams and was president of The Mon Youth Soccer Association. He and his wife devoted countless weekends shuffling their boys to various soccer tournaments. Allen was also involved in cub scouts and was scoutmaster of Pack 60. He loved vacationing at Cedar Point and the Outer Banks every year with his family and his ever-present chocolate labs.Following a heart attack in 2017, Allen was given a second chance at life. He was able to enjoy two more vacations to the Outer Banks as a result. Allen and Brenda enjoyed and cherished every moment together.He is survived by his wife of 36 years, Brenda; three sons, Eric, Joel and girlfriend, Brittney Smith, and Ryan and wife, Sarah.
